Three of West Ham’s academy starlets will represent England at youth level during the international break. Aji Alese is in England’s U19 squad while Jamal Baptiste and Amadou Diallo will represent the Young Lions at U17 level.
Elsewhere, Nathan Trott and Grady Diangana have both been dropped from the England U21 squad. Aidy Boothroyd has no spaces available for either player after leaving them out of the last two games. Trott, on loan at Wimbledon, and Diangana, on loan at West Brom, now face a battle to get back into the squad.
Alese will miss Accrington Stanley’s next two matches as he is in the England U19 squad. The 18-year-old will compete to start at centre-back when England face France and Belgium in Marbella.
So far, Alese has only made one appearance for Accrington since joining on loan. That came as a substitute against Sunderland. This international break will give him a chance to prove a point to John Coleman.
Two Hammers prodigies will be on display as England U17s travel to Spain. Baptiste and Diallo have received their first call-ups to represent the Three Lions at this age group level.
Baptiste has been drafted into the U23 team this year – despite being just 15 – and made the step up with aplomb. The teenager plays in central defence and has not struggled to cope with the added physicality of the U23 game.
Diallo, meanwhile, has been impressing in the academy for a while. The 15-year-old striker scored for the U23 team last season and has been steadily progressing.
Both Baptiste and Diallo will be aiming for success in two games against Germany and one against Spain. There are three games in quick succession so both players should get some game time.
