West Ham could be without Javier Hernandez for tonight’s trip to Southampton, according to reports.

Football.London’s West Ham correspondent, Sam Inkersole, has confirmed on Twitter that Hernandez is an injury doubt for tonight.

The Hammers travel to in-form Southampton tonight, hoping to bounce back from defeat against Watford.

But there are fresh injury concerns for Manuel Pellegrini, who is without a number of players.

Chicharito will be assessed ahead of the trip to the south coast because of a back injury.

Sam Inkersole has confirmed that Hernandez picked up a knock to his back in training before West Ham’s game with Watford.

Despite West Ham trailing by one goal at the time, the Mexico international was withdrawn from the action and replaced by Grady Diangana towards the end of the game.

The 30-year-old is now facing a race against time to be fit in time to face Southampton tonight.

Other injury woes

Hernandez is not the only player who needs to be assessed before tonight.

Paraguay defender Fabian Balbuena faces a late fitness test too, according to BBC Sport.

Marko Arnautovic, Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez, Winston Reid, Manuel Lanzini, Ryan Fredericks and Andriy Yarmolenko remain sidelined for the injury-hit Irons.

But Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll could be in contention to return to the starting line-up if Hernandez is out.
