West Ham star Angelo Ogbonna now ‘walking and trotting’ after his injury in a big boost for Hammers boss David Moyes.

That’s according to a West Ham insider speaking to website Claret and Hugh.

West Ham have once again had rotten luck with injuries at key times this season.

Jarrod Bowen being the latest example having had to sit out West Ham’s biggest game for decades in last night’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla.

West Ham were absolutely flying on all fronts back in November and had just gone third in the Premier League when Ogbonna was struck down with what was expected to be a season-ending ACL injury during a 3-2 win over Liverpool.

But now, according to a West Ham insider, Ogbonna is targeting a comeback sooner than anticipated.

That’s after the West Ham star started ‘walking and trotting’ on grass after the injury lay-off in what will be a major boost for Moyes.

CandH was told this morning that he has moved beyond upper body strengthening in the gym within his recovery regime and is now back on grass,” a West Ham insider told Claret and Hugh.

“He is walking and trotting which suggests he may be closer to a return to squad training than most would have expected possible.

“There are even hopes that he could be back by the middle of next month assuming his recovery continues at the present rate.”

Ogbonna’s injury proved to be a defining moment in West Ham’s season. The Hammers just have not looked the same side since. Certainly not on a consistent basis.

It is difficult to remember many, if any, matches since Ogbonna’s injury where West Ham have been dominant or played well for the full 90 minutes.

Even last night’s far from disastrous 1-0 defeat to Sevilla was patchy and fans came away feeling the team did not really show their true potential.

Much of that is down to missing key players like Bowen and Ogbonna.

Even just having the big Italian around training with the other players will be a big boost for Moyes given how influential Ogbonna is as a leader in the dressing room.

Let’s hope he can feature in some games before the end of the season.
