West Ham goalkeeper David Martin has picked up the same injury as Lukasz Fabianski, Manuel Pellegrini has revealed.

Pellegrini told a post-match press conference (via Football London’s Sam Inkersole) that Martin has picked up the exact same injury as Fabianski. 2019 Hammer of the Year Fabianski remains out after picking up his injury in September.

Since Fabianski’s injury, West Ham have gone from third to just above the relegation zone. That was partly down to Fabianski’s replacement Roberto. The Spaniard was at fault for a number of goals, including one where he punched into his own net against Burnley.

Boyhood Hammers fan Martin (son of West Ham legend Alvin) only joined in the summer as a homegrown third choice. But he was thrown in at the deep end, making his debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Martin has been a complete improvement on Roberto. The 33-year-old kept his second clean sheet in Saturday’s win over Southampton. But he suffered an injury scare at the death.

West Ham fans are worried in case Roberto has to come back. Here are some tweets about Martin’s injury.
