West Ham’s injury prone pair Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere could be back in action soon, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

Pellegrini has told the club’s official website that Carroll is close to full fitness, while Wilshere will return to training during the break.

Carroll has not featured at all this season. The 29-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season and he will need to impress to earn himself a new deal.

Wilshere, meanwhile, joined from Arsenal in the summer but was injured after just four games.

Pellegrini confirmed that there was positive news on the injury front for a change.

He told the club’s official website: “Andy is close to playing again. At the start of last week he started working a little bit with the squad, not 100%, and he will work again this week.

“On Thursday we will play a friendly game and we’ll see if he can play some minutes, and I think in the second week of the international break Jack Wilshere will also be able to work with the squad.”

With plenty of injuries elsewhere, this could be a timely boost for the Hammers. But having seen Carroll flit in and out of fitness over the years, many West Ham fans are still pessimistic.

Below are some comments from West Ham fans about Carroll’s imminent return.
