West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed that he rested Michail Antonio against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Football London reports.
Wolves beat West Ham 2-0 at Molineux and the away side were toothless without their key attacker. There was no pace, no power and no spirit going forward, mainly because Antonio was missing.
Antonio makes West Ham click
Antonio has only just returned from injury but he made an instant impact against Tottenham Hotspur. It was a one-man team as Antonio brought West Ham from 3-0 down back to 3-2.
Then, he started as a striker in the 1-0 win over Chelsea. His goal was chalked off but he caused problems for the Blues’ defence all match. He was taken off in the second half with many believing it was precautionary.
While there was talk of a groin strain, Pellegrini has claimed it was just a precaution. With Antonio coming back from a long-term injury, Pellegrini decided it would be wise to rest the 29-year-old.
This post-match comment was met with anger by some frustrated Hammers supporters. Here are some of the best tweets.
We aren’t good enough to ‘rest’ our only potent attacking option … madness!

Why not stick him on the bench…surely he would have been a tad more effective for 10 mins than Ajeti was? Jesus. Feel sorry for those who paid to go & watch it.

We are so slow and labourious going forward without Antonio in the side

Only player in the squad with any ability to out muscle the opposition. Only one with the guts to take on a player and run. He adds so much to the team. We need an overhaul. It’s not just the manager. There’s a major rot in westham.

And that sums the manager up ,happy with his squad that clearly isn’t good enough or strong enough, get rid of a striker with pace and not replace him,was scandalous, now relying on a winger to bail him out !
