West Ham United’s alarming lack of back-up in central midfield has been exposed by a new injury blow.
David Moyes sings the praises of West Ham’s unsung hero
The Hammers have made a superb start to the season.
And much of their success can be put down to a lack of injuries in the squad.

West Ham fortunate with injuries so far… for a change
Only Michail Antonio has missed games with a hamstring strain.
West Ham fans have highlighted concerns over a lack of strength in depth in several key areas of the team.
It is felt West Ham are living dangerously with only two forwards and – beyond ageing captain Mark Noble – no quality back-up for Declan Rice or Tomas Soucek in central midfield.
David Moyes has been linked with the likes of John Lundstram to address that in January (Sky Sports).

Central midfield back-up a concern as insider lifts lid on injury blow
In the meantime many supporters felt the encouraging form of rising young midfield star Conor Coventry for club and country would see him promoted to the first team if needed.
But according to West Ham insider ExWHUemployee, Moyes has been dealt a big blow with the news that Coventry could be out for up to six weeks with a broken foot.
“Unfortunately West Ham under 23s captain Conor Coventry has broken a metatarsal bone in his foot and is expected to be out for about 4-6 weeks!” ExWHUemployee said.
“This injury was sustained during Ireland Under 21s loss against Iceland. A game where he played through the pain and got man of the match.”

Moyes only has Noble in reserve and must address midfield in January
It may not seem a big blow to Moyes right now given the club’s form and Coventry’s lack of first team action.
And hopefully West Ham can get through to January without any injury issues in central midfield.
But Moyes has proved he is not afraid to throw young players into the side and Coventry was very much the next in line for a midfield spot.
