West Ham United have been rocked by the news Arthur Masuaku will be out for the foreseeable future following a knee operation.

Has Leeds boss just showed why Sullivan and Gold snubbed him for the West Ham job?

Masuaku has been one of the stars of West Ham’s best start to a season for five years.

David Moyes has switched to a wingback formation this term which has got the best out of both Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell.

But Moyes’s best laid plans have been thrown into disarray after Masuaku revealed on social media he and the club decided now was the time to have a knee op they had been putting off.

Moyes did not mention the injury in his press conference ahead of the game against Leeds on Friday night (whufc.com).

But Masuaku posted a message on Instagram stories with a picture of him recovering in hospital.

“Hi everyone, I hope you are all good,” Masuaku wrote on Instagram in a post which can no longer be viewed.

“Today I’m having a knee surgery to help me remove the pain that’s been bothering me for nearly two years now. It’s been a very difficult decision to make but for my good being and the rest of my career I have to make it.

“I’ll be giving updates here through my recovery and will see you soon again on the field. I wish my teammates/brothers the very best.”

Injury leaves winning Moyes formation in disarray

Moyes will now surely have to switch to four at the back.

And that does not bode well given West Ham’s miserable record playing that formation.

It leaves Aaron Cresswell exposed at left-back and does neither Angelo Ogbonna nor Fabian Balbuena any favours either.

What does Hammers boss have up his sleeve?

West Ham fans will just have to hope Moyes has something up his sleeve.

He may even choose to promote one of his talented Under 23 stars to the first team to cover.

But Ben Johnson, who has operated at left-back in the past, is most likely to deputise.
