Scan booked as West Ham face anxious wait to discover extent of new Maxwel Cornet injury claims insider

Scan booked as West Ham United face an anxious wait to discover the full extent of a new injury to Maxwel Cornet claims a club insider.

West Ham fans have been desperate to see £17m summer signing Cornet given his first start in the Premier League.

That day finally came in West Ham’s much-needed 2-0 win over Wolves.

But it was cut short for Cornet as he was substituted after just 34 minutes following a challenge from Leeds ace Daniel Podence.

Cornet had started well and looked a threat but could not continue after the knock.

It was typical of the Ivory Coast star’s rotten luck in a West Ham shirt so far.

He could and should have had a goal in the defeat at Chelsea. And he was pole-axed by the goalkeeper and forced off in the home win over FCSB.

After the Wolves game David Moyes suggested the injury appeared to be Cornet’s calf rather than his ankle, which those watching live had assumed.

Now a scan has been booked as West Ham face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the new Maxwel Cornet injury claims an insider.

Cornet will be sent for a scan on Monday following his withdrawal against Wolves claims a West Ham insider speaking to Claret and Hugh.

“A key source at the club told ClaretandHugh that the medical staff hadn’t diagnosed the problem at this stage and that the player would be off for a scan tomorrow (Monday),” Claret and Hugh state.

Regardless of the outcome, the fact a scan is needed suggests Cornet might be unlikely to face Anderlecht in the Conference League on Thursday.

The Hammers then entertain Fulham at home on Sunday with a real chance to make it back-to-back Premier League wins.

The Cottagers have enjoyed a solid start back in the top flight but were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle this weekend and will be without Nathaniel Chalobah for the West Ham game following his sending off.
