Same old West Ham, always injured!

It has been an extremely tough week for West Ham regarding injuries as trio Andy Carroll, James Tomkins and new signing Cheikou Kouyate suffered serious injuries during the pre-season match versus Wellington Phoenix.

We’ll start with the rather smaller news as Senegalese Kouyate was maliciously stamped on in the first half against Wellington Phoenix but although the medical staff feared the worst at first, he managed to play on for the large duration of the match and performed well.

Allardyce confirmed in the post-match interview that all the staff were voicing their fears ahead of the scan because Cheikou Kouyate’s was thought to be worse than first expected. Since then, we have heard that the injury isn’t too severe but he’ll miss the rest of the tour of New Zealand, the club hopes that he can make a return for the first match of the season versus Tottenham Hotspur.

The news regarding Englishman James Tomkins remains the same as Cheikou Kouyate. Tomkins has flew back with Andy Carroll ahead of scans on their injuries. Tomkins came off the pitch after the final whistle versus Wellington Phoenix with a tight hamstring so it is pretty worrying to see that just 2-3 weeks into pre-season.

Finally, David Sullivan featured in a Q&A with the fans on Twitter via Jack Sullivan’s account and announced that Andy Carroll would be out for 4 devastating months. This was just 1 day after Kevin Nolan stated that West Ham United rely on Andy Carroll, so it is pretty heartbreaking news.

Furthermore, Carroll was sidelined last season for a large spell but hit back with 2 goals (vs Sunderland and Stoke). Carroll was set to be fit for the first game of the season but now this has put him way behind schedule and David Sullivan has publicly announced that if they knew Carroll would bring this much baggage, they wouldn’t have signed the striker.

Ending the article on a positive note, Sullivan has also said that West Ham are looking to sign another striker to replace Andy Carroll for the time-being and are willing to sign a full-back too. Enner Valencia has agreed the deal to sign for West Ham and should provide adequate cover.
