Winston Reid has returned to first-team training, West Ham’s official Twitter account has confirmed.
After Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Reid was back in training, West Ham posted a picture on social media showing Reid in action.
The New Zealand international is running alongside Marko Arnautovic and has a grin on his face as he gets back on the pitch.
Winston Reid injury
It has been a long path back to training for Reid, who last played for West Ham nearly a year ago – in March 2018.
But the 30-year-old is back in training and will be hoping to wrestle back his spot at centre-back. He has competition from Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna.
Reid may return to action before the end of the season, although Pellegrini will not want to rush him.
Winston Reid at West Ham
Reid has provided West Ham with some memorable moments since his move from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2010.
The Kiwi scored a volley winner against Millwall and helped the Hammers to promotion via the play-offs that season.
In the 2012/13 season, upon West Ham’s return to the Premier League, Reid won Hammer of the Year. He also rejected the chance to join another club and opted to stay in East London.
But his best moment in claret and blue was arguably the last ever goal at The Boleyn Ground – a thumping headed winner against Manchester United.
Nonetheless, some West Ham fans want to see him gone. Others are desperate to see him back to his best. Below are some tweets discussing Reid’s return.
