When speaking on his Gaming Twitch channel on Thursday night, Michail Antonio confirmed that he is fit and available for selection for West Ham United’s clash with Sheffield United on Sunday.
The announcement is great news, and some Hammers fans have reacted jubilantly on Twitter to the 30-year-old’s comments:
Whilst is it perhaps too early to start Antonio, having him back and available for selection for Sunday’s game will be a huge boost for David Moyes.
The 30-year-old is one of the most important players that Moyes has amongst his ranks at the London Stadium.
The former Nottingham Forest man has been on fire since football resumed in June. He has scored 11 goals in his last 15 Premier League games for West Ham.
If the Hammers are to enjoy a successful Premier League campaign, we will need Antonio fully fit and firing on all cylinders between now and May.
The 30-year-old is the only player we have who is comfortable when leading the line on his own.
His work-rate and team ethic are vital to David Moyes’s vision and the way in which the Scot expects West Ham to play.
Fingers crossed he is ready for Sunday’s clash with the Blades. At the same time, however, it would be wise for Moyes not to rush the powerful attacker back to action too quickly.
We have been bitten in the past having done just that. And we need to learn from our past mistakes when it comes to Antonio’s fitness.
