West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will not rush Jack Wilshere back from injury, according to a report by The London Evening Standard.
Wilshere is one of a number of West Ham players who have spent a significant period of time on the sidelines this season. But the ex-Arsenal midfielder is back in full training and is raring to go. Wilshere is targeting a first-team return before the end of the season.
However, Pellegrini does not want to risk Wilshere before he is fully ready. Whether the sporadic England international gets any game time before the end of the season remains to be seen.
Jack Wilshere: a frustrating season
West Ham snapped boyhood Hammers fan Wilshere up on a free transfer in the summer after his Arsenal contract expired. The 27-year-old signed a three-year deal and started in West Ham’s opening four games – all of which ended in defeat.
But an ankle injury then sidelined him for three months before he returned in early December. Wilshere played a five-minute substitute cameo against Newcastle United and set up a goal as he looked to play a key role in West Ham’s European qualification push.
However, the left-footed midfielder then suffered another setback in training and that has kept him out for nearly four months.
Wilshere is back in training but whether he can add to his five West Ham appearances relies on Pellegrini’s assessment.
