West Ham duo Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko are unlikely to play again this season, according to a reliable club insider.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM (Wednesday 10th April), EXWHUEmployee revealed that Sanchez and Yarmolenko were nearly back in training.

However, after long-term injuries, it is unlikely that we will see either player feature in the final five games of the season.

Sanchez and Yarmolenko will be ready for pre-season and hope to regain full fitness ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Veteran midfielder Sanchez was a late summer addition to prove depth to the holding midfield position. The Colombia international played in five of West Ham’s first six matches, although he only started two of those.

In his sixth game for the Hammers, the 33-year-old suffered an injury against Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup and he has been out ever since.

Yarmolenko was considered to be a marquee signing when he arrived from Borussia Dortmund last summer. And the Ukraine winger did not disappoint when given his first start.

The 29-year-old scored twice against Everton at Goodison Park and demonstrated how lethal his left foot can be.

But in his 10th game – against Tottenham Hotspur in October – Yarmolenko suffered an Achilles injury which has kept him sidelined until now.

2019/20 prospects

Sanchez turns 34 next season and he faces a battle to get back to his best after a long-term injury. West Ham have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders so his future could hinge on that.

West Ham fans will be praying that Yarmolenko can rediscover the form he was showing prior to his long-term injury.

With Yarmolenko on the right and Felipe Anderson on the left, West Ham were looking dangerous. Let’s hope a full pre-season can help him get back to his best.
