Huge boost for West Ham as ‘excellent’ player returns to action for under-21s after injury problems

West Ham have been handed a big boost with the news that Harrison Ashby has returned to action for the under-21s after his injury problems.

The 20-year-old right-back has been out for a few weeks now with a groin problem, and considering Vladimir Coufal’s woeful form and Ben Johnson’s injury problems, his absence came at the worst possible time for the Hammers.

Ashby was actually close to leaving the London Stadium in the summer, with the likes of Newcastle interested in his signature (The Daily Mail).

The big concern is that he is out of contract with West Ham next summer, and allegedly may well not sign a new deal.

Hopefully David Moyes manages to convince Ashby to stay, because he’s a huge talent. And maybe we’ll see him in action regularly between now and the end of the season…

The 20-year-old played 90 minutes for the Hammers’ under-21s against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

West Ham lost the game 1-0, but Ashby returning to action was a huge positive.

We believe that the 20-year-old right-back has everything needed to make it at the very highest level.

He has so much about him and has already proven that he is capable of mixing it up with seasoned veterans for the West Ham senior team.

If Ashby continues to work hard and applies himself properly, both on and off the pitch, the young right-back will have a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

Described as an ‘excellent’ player by Football.London, the 20-year-old is one of the brightest talents to come through the ranks at the London Stadium, and he was in sensational form for the under-23s last term.

He is quick, strong and possesses really good technique. Ashby is a very solid defender and has the nouse, footballing intelligence and athleticism needed to contribute in the attacking third as well.

The 20-year-old is a truly elite young talent and Moyes and the board should be doing absolutely everything in their power to keep him at the London Stadium.

His return from his recent injury problem for the West Ham under-21 side was great, but now’s the time for him to really kick on.
