West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts is an injury doubt for the Bournemouth game on Saturday due to a dead leg.

Freddie Potts played 62 minutes as West Ham beat Burnley in their last Premier League game before the international break.

However, he had to be withdrawn due to an injury concern and will need to be assessed ahead of this weekend’s game against the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium.

Freddie Potts not likely to play 90 minutes vs Bournemouth

Nuno Espirito Santo will surely provide an update on the 22-year-old midfielder in the press conference, but Hammers News reached out to Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert and sports scientist, to get more details.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy claims that there is a chance of significant bruising in such injuries, and his availability would depend on how he’s responded to training and treatment, if any.

It’s understood that he would probably need to undergo a late fitness test and is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes even if he passes it.

Dr Brar said: “Dead leg typically occurs from contact, but availability is going to depend on specifics, namely, how much pain and dysfunction he’s having.

“There can often be significant bruising as well.

“If the discomfort level is low, then it will be a late fitness test, and the key will be how he responds to training and treatment.

“It’s likely that even if fit, he may not play the full 90 minutes.”

Will Tomas Soucek start for West Ham United?

Tomas Soucek came on for Potts at the London Stadium against the Clarets and scored an important goal in his side’s 3-2 win.

Given the impact he had, Nuno may be tempted to include the Czech Republic international right from the start to give his side the best chance of getting something against Bournemouth.

The Cherries have enjoyed a decent start to the season and will look to play free-flowing and expansive football against West Ham United.

Thus, to stop that from happening, having a colossus like Soucek in the middle of the park would certainly benefit the East London club.
