The 22-year-old has been ruled out for around 4-6 weeks having torn the lateral ligament of his right knee.
The news was obviously a huge blow for David Moyes, the West Ham players and the fans to swallow.
Rice is so important to the Hammers.

The defensive midfielder has firmly established himself as our best player over the past two years.
And losing him at this stage of the season might prove to be very costly for us.
Rice is a key player for England now as well.
Declan Rice injury leaves West Ham angry with England
Gareth Southgate clearly loves Dec. He is surely an absolute shoo-in to start at the Euros this summer.
That is if his knee has completely healed in time of course.

It does seem crazy that Rice wasn’t brought off as a precaution against Poland on Wednesday. It is also baffling that he wasn’t checked by the England medics after the game.
And the Athletic claims that is why West Ham are so angry with the England national team.
Too right as well.
Let’s just hope that Rice recovers as quickly as possible. There is no reason why he won’t. The 22-year-old is an incredibly fit and robust young man.
The Declan Rice injury has certainly made everyone stand up and realise just how costly and dangerous these mid-season international breaks can be, however.
