David Moyes has this afternoon ruled brilliant West Ham star Jarrod Bowen out of the Aston Villa clash this weekend.
Bowen was a massive miss for West Ham as Moyes’s boys slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Sevilla last night.
Moyes was rocked by a huge blow when West Ham star Bowen was – as expected – ruled out of the Europa League last 16 first leg in Sevilla.
West Ham were very unfortunate to be beaten 1-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers at Anfield last time out in the Premier League.
And the Hammers will need to put that right when they take on Steven Gerrard’s in-form Aston Villa this Sunday if they want to keep pace in the race for the European spots.
Aston Villa can close to within six points of West Ham with a win at the London Stadium.
There looked to have been promising news on the Bowen injury when West Ham confirmed a scan showed no significant damage to Bowen’s foot.
West Ham’s medical chief Richard Collinge confirmed Bowen would face further assessment ‘in the coming days’ ahead of the Sevilla match.
While there may be no significant damage, the fact Bowen was in pain putting weight on his heel was a concern.
West Ham have carried out the further assessments on Bowen but are none the wiser.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference before Sevilla, Moyes said the mysterious Bowen injury had West Ham medics stumped.
“We’ve got Jarrod Bowen out for this game who’s been in great form for us in the last month or two,” Moyes said in his pre-match presser (whufc.com).
“Jarrod’s got a bit of an X factor which you need up-front. He’s been in really good form in the last two to three months. It won’t change us a great deal, but certainly we’ll be missing an important player.
“We’ve had three or four different scans on it and we’re not seeing anything severe, but we’re also trying to find out the cause. Because we’re a bit concerned what it might be (Sky Sports News 8.40pm Wednesday March 9th). We’re hoping we’ll have Jarrod back because he’s been a really important part of the team recently.”
The fact West Ham cannot pinpoint the specifics of the injury would surely make treating it quickly rather difficult.

It is a major concern.
The Hammers boss could offer little comfort for West Ham fans ahead of the game against Aston Villa at the weekend either.
“We’re just recovering everybody so I couldn’t give you a complete answer (on injury news for Aston Villa),” Moyes said in his pre-match presser (whufc.com).
“We seemed to come through Thursday’s game relatively unscathed.
“Regarding Jarrod, he’s not going to be available for the weekend…
“It’s a really difficult injury to diagnose but we hope we can get him closer to fitness.”
It is typical of West Ham’s rotten history of injuries that the club may not be able to call on their most in-form player for some of their biggest games of the season during this run-in.
We can only hope Bowen can get himself back and ready as soon as possible.
West Ham certainly need him.
