Another West Ham injury blow: Wilshere could miss the season – report

West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered another injury setback, which is likely to rule him out for even longer.

The extent of his injury is varying in reports but West Ham fans cannot expect to see him back soon.

And there are even some suggestions that he may have to undergo surgery, which would rule him out for the season.

Wilshere, who was infamous for his injury record at Arsenal, has been out for most of this season and his wait to return will be elongated.

Wilshere joined West Ham from Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer, penning a three-year deal.

After a full pre-season, the England international started in West Ham’s midfield, playing the opening four games which all ended in losses.

But he was then ruled out with an ankle injury, keeping him sidelined from early September until early December.

The 26-year-old featured as a late substitute against Newcastle United on December 1st, picking up an assist.

But he suffered another injury setback, to his other ankle, in a training session shortly after the game.

Out for the season?

The Mirror reports that Wilshere faces five more weeks on the sidelines with this new ankle injury.

But it could be worse than the five weeks suggested in that report.

According to The Sun, Wilshere may need to undergo surgery if his ankle does not recover after a few weeks of rest.

With Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko, Winston Reid and Carlos Sanchez all on the long-term injury list, this latest Wilshere setback is yet another frustration for the Hammers.
