‘A bit worried’: David Moyes provides Kurt Zouma update after West Ham star suffered injury vs Kidderminster

David Moyes provided an update last night on Kurt Zouma after the West Ham defender looked to have suffered a nasty injury.

The 27-year-old Hammers centre-back did carry on playing until the end of extra-time, but the way that he went to ground really didn’t look good.

Especially when taking into account the fact that he has only recently returned from two months on the sidelines with a hamstring tendon injury.

The fact that David Moyes failed to sign a top-class centre-back in January could very well come back to haunt the Hammers.

Moyes provides Zouma update

The Scot faced questions from reporters after West Ham just about squeezed through to the fifth round of the FA Cup following an unconvincing performance against Kidderminster Harriers.

There was a hugely concerning moment for the Hammers towards the end of the game when Kurt Zouma fell awkwardly.

Moyes responded when asked about the severity of the Frenchman’s injury, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think he’s okay. I was a bit worried. Obviously, the plan was not to play him as long but we made changes to try and get ourselves in the cup and stay in the cup so unfortunately, I was not able to bring him off earlier.”

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Zouma is fine because if he isn’t, we will be bang in trouble.

The thought of Issa Diop wearing a West Ham shirt again fills me with dread.

Craig Dawson is a dependable option but the Hammers will not be able to get by if the 31-year-old has to partner Diop at the heart of our defence.

Zouma is incredibly athletic and fit. The problem with his knee is a real concern though. If he’s out for a sustained period of time, we have next to no chance of finishing inside the top four this season.

Hopefully he’s fine but surely now Moyes and the owners realise that the addition of a central defender in January was a necessity.
