The 22-year-old has been absolutely superb for the Hammers this season.

In fact, he has been our best and most consistent player over the past two-and-a-half years.

Despite his tender years, Rice leads by example and he has been given the captain’s armband when Mark Noble hasn’t been selected.

David Moyes hasn’t got much depth in central midfield at the London Stadium. So he will be desperate to keep Declan Rice fit between now and the end of the season.

The 13-capped England international, who earns £55k-a-week according to Football League FC, makes us tick. The manner in which he drives with the ball from deep is so important to how the Hammers progress up the pitch.

Ian Wright a huge Declan Rice fan

The 22-year-old has now fully established himself as a vital player for both club and country.

And Ian Wright absolutely raved about Declan Rice, when speaking on the BBC tonight at 19:12 (Tuesday, February 9th):

“He’s a leader and when you look at his numbers, it’s not just defensively, he gets forward, his passing accuracy, his interceptions. He’s matured. The responsibility he’s got, he’s playing well, he’s leading by example, he’s doing everything. Not only can he pass it but he can run with it as well. He obviously needs to add more goals to his game, but he cannot be stopped with aggressive running, powerful running, passing, interceptions, everything, he’s got the lot.”

Ian Wright is absolutely spot on.

Rice really does have everything. He is far from a one trick pony. Sure, the 22-year-old could add more goals and assists to his game, but he is a defensive midfielder at the end of the day.

We need to consider ourselves extremely lucky that we have Declan at West Ham. Let’s hope that he remains at the London Stadium for many more years to come.
