West Ham’s under-23 side played against Porto in the International Cup last night, securing a 2-1 win.

But there were many household names missing from the academy side, including Reece Oxford.

The 19-year-old has been a regular for the Development Squad this season, captaining the side each week.

But West Ham fans are speculating that he could be set for a senior call-up as the Hammers face Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup tonight.

Oxford made his West Ham debut aged 16 but since then, he has only managed 16 more first-team outings.

In addition to this, he has played for Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.

The England under-20 international is yet to impress Manuel Pellegrini enough for a call-up.

But could this change tonight?

The youngster who could play

Oxford was not the only youngster to miss out last night. Conor Coventry, Joe Powell and Moses Makasi were all omitted from the under-23 squad.

Coventry and Powell have already made their first-team debuts but it could be a first taste of action for central midfielder Makasi.

Here are some things West Ham fans were saying regarding Oxford’s exclusion from the under-23 game.
