West Ham travel to The Kassam Stadium tonight to take on Oxford United. After beating Newport County in the last round, West Ham have the chance to progress to the Fourth Round of the EFL Cup by beating League One side Oxford.
But Karl Robinson’s men have got some dangerous players and they will be gunning for a shock. Oxford beat Lincoln City 6-0 away from home at the weekend to show what they are all about. Here are three danger men for West Ham to be aware of.
Cameron Brannagan is playing below his level in the third tier – he could easily be a Championship player. The 23-year-old joined Oxford after leaving Liverpool in January 2018 and he is a key member of the squad.
Operating in central midfield, Brannagan keeps things ticking over for Oxford and provides the attacking threat. With five goals in 12 games this season, he provides a goal threat from midfield too.
Ben Woodburn is on loan at Oxford from Liverpool after spending last season at Sheffield United. The Wales international shows flashes of brilliance but he struggles for consistency – hence why he is playing in League One at the moment.
However, with his raw talent, pace and skill, Woodburn is a player who will be eager to impress tonight. The 19-year-old already has a goal and four assists to his name at Oxford so he is one to watch.
Tariqe Fosu is Oxford’s unpredictable wildcard on the wing. On his day, the speedy winger – formerly of Reading and Charlton Athletic – can be a match-winner. On other days, the games pass him by.
The 23-year-old scored a hat-trick against Lincoln last weekend to take his tally to four goals and three assists since his summer move. Prior to that, he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists for Charlton to prove his attacking menace from the wide areas.
