In the January transfer window, West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang was linked with a return to Italy. Sky Sports News reported that Obiang was closing in on a £10m switch to Fiorentina.
When the transfer window reopens in the summer, Obiang might get his permanent move away from West Ham.
But Manuel Pellegrini will need a replacement if Obiang does leave; a new central midfielder to take the club forward. AC Milan’s Franck Kessie could be the ideal option.
Franck Kessie transfer rumours
According to a recent report by Calciomercato, West Ham are among the clubs interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Kessie.
The Ivory Coast international has recently had a bust-up with team-mate Lucas Biglia, which could push him closer to the exit door.
Arsenal and Tottenham are also credited with an interest in Kessie but this could be a statement signing for the Hammers.
Franck Kessie: style of play
Kessie could be an ideal upgrade on Obiang at West Ham. The 22-year-old is young, dynamic and a complete central midfielder with defensive and attacking capabilities.
He has played 33 times for AC Milan this season, including 26 Serie A games in which he has scored four and assisted one other.
With nearly 1200 passes completed this season (including 37 key passes) and 36 successful dribbles (via Who Scored), Kessie is an attacking threat from central midfield.
A tally of 23 interceptions, 34 clearances, 25 blocks and 29 tackles also shows he can sit deeper, alongside Declan Rice, allowing Manuel Lanzini and Samir Nasri to play a more advanced role.
Kessie has the potential to be a much better all-round option in midfield than Obiang and this could help West Ham go to the next level.
