Manuel Lanzini turned 27 today, and the club sent their message of congratulations to the Argentine on Twitter. The tweet backfired, however, with some West Ham fans hijacking the post, mocking the midfielder’s woeful form this season.

The former River Plate man joined the Hammers originally on loan in the summer of 2015, before making his switch a permanent one the following year for around £9 million (Daily Mail).

Lanzini endeared himself to the West Ham fans immediately. He was an instant hit in east London.

Unfortunately for him, however, his performance levels have fallen off a cliff this season.

He has created just two ‘big chances’ and has a shooting accuracy of only 37% (premierleague.com).

Lanzini’s fall from grace is hard to understand or explain. One thing’s for sure, however, David Moyes needs the mercurial Argentine to return to somewhere near his best between now and the end of the season.

The Hammers faithful are extremely angry with Moyes’s continued support of the play-maker. They feel as though Pablo Fornals should be starting ahead of the South American. And some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the club’s official post wishing Lanzini a happy birthday today…
