West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini tweet backfires spectacularly

West Ham were held to a 0-0 draw by Aston Villa on Monday night.

The Hammers were solid defensively, but just didn’t create enough in the final third.

One of the chief culprits for West Ham was Manuel Lanzini. The Argentine was decent on the ball, but he was fairly wasteful when the Hammers found themselves in good attacking positions.

The mercurial 26-year-old missed a large chunk of last season through injury, but he seems to have returned to somewhere near his best this term.

Monday’s performance against Villa wasn’t one of his better ones, however.

In spite of his average display, West Ham posted the below tweet to their official Twitter account today:

And it backfired, as some Hammers fans took to the social networking platform in response to the tweet…

Despite Monday’s tepid display, Lanzini remains a very important player for West Ham.

If Manuel Pellegrini’s side are to challenge for the top six this season, they will need the South American to be on his very best form.
