West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell answered his critics emphatically yesterday

Aaron Cresswell was absolutely superb for West Ham against Manchester United yesterday.

His magnificent display was capped off with a superb 30 yard free-kick. And it was a performance worthy of praise from fans and the media alike.

The 29-year-old Hammers man was dropped by Manuel Pellegrini after his poor showing on the opening day of the season against Manchester City.

Many suggested that Cresswell’s legs had gone after his injury problems. And some West Ham fans thought that the left-back’s days at the London Stadium were numbered.

The former Ipswich Town defender, who earns £50,000 per week according to Spotrac, answered those critics emphatically yesterday, however.

Not only did he defend with aplomb, but he was also a threat going forward. And he seemed to be in great shape physically.

Cresswell has now given Manuel Pellegrini a real selection headache, with Arthur Masuaku set to return from suspension.

The Englishman is undoubtedly a more solid defender than the Congolese ace.

After Cresswell’s display yesterday, the former Olympiacos man will surely find it hard to force his way back into the side straight away.

The left-back looked like his former self yesterday, and if he maintains that form, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be West Ham’s first choice left-back for the foreseeable future.

He will be delighted with his efforts yesterday, and so he should be. West Ham fans will also be pleased to see the defender back to his best.

Cresswell’s performance yesterday was a big statement. It was one made at just the right time. And one that he had to make with Masuaku out through suspension.
