West Ham United have urged fans not to push for cash refunds where possible to ‘help the club’.
West Ham’s battle for survival has been on hold since March as a result of the global health crisis.
Talks have been ongoing for some time now over the Premier League’s Project Restart.
A date of June 19th now looks like for West Ham’s return to action should the season get the all clear to resume.
Any return will be behind closed doors for the remainder of this season at least.
Supporter groups called on club to announce refund plans
West Ham supporters groups Hammers United and the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association called on the club to respond over partial refunds for season and match tickets last week.
West Ham were one only a handful of Premier League clubs that had not made their position clear. The likes of Leicester announced their plans over a month ago (LCFC).
But West Ham sent supporters an update on Wednesday by email.
Fans were told they can ask for a refund on a pro-rata basis or accept club cash credit.
But the club implored supporters to opt for club cash where possible, saying the process would be easier and would help the club.
West Ham urge fans to accept club cash where possible
“We know each supporter will have different circumstances and factors to consider and the Club is committed to ensuring that your personal situation and requirements are treated with the utmost care and attention,” West Ham said in a statement sent out to fans.
“We will work with you to find a solution for you to continue following the club in the way you wish.
“With the wide acknowledgment that our final five home fixtures of the 2019-20 campaign will most likely be played without supporters present, the club can confirm that you, as a valued Season Ticket Holder, will be credited the pro-rata value of the remaining five home matches, which can be used to reduce the cost of your 2020-21 Season Ticket, or receive a refund. The same will apply for Women’s Super League Season Ticket Holders.
“Opting to take a credit will be an easy and convenient way for you to guarantee your seat for next season and in doing so also lock in a price freeze for your 2020-21 Season Ticket, as well as, of course, helping to support your Club through these testing times.
“Additionally, Club Cash balances will be extended to 31 July 2021, so you can credit this against your 2020-21 renewal safe in the knowledge that funds will be held securely and will be used only upon your confirmation when the 2020-21 renewal process is opened.”
Hammers pledge to help fans with next season’s renewals
Some supporters, particularly those unable to work at the moment, may need the cash refund.
Indeed many fans may be concerned about having funds available to renew their season tickets for next term after a change in personal circumstances.
But West Ham have pledged to help those fans find a solution.
“The club will work with our fans in these times to support any Season Ticket Holders who wish to retain their seats in the event of a change of circumstances,” the statement added.
“The club will contact supporters directly at the appropriate time with further information.”
