The Hammers are interested in signing the German World Cup winner on a free transfer in the summer, according to a report from German publication Sport Bild.

Gotze on a free could be an attractive proposition

The 27-year-old will be available on a free transfer this summer after his latest comments, quoted via the Evening Standard:

“Today I would like to announce that after intensive consideration, I have decided to make a change in the planning of my career. I have consciously taken my time over this step. It is an important decision for my sporting future. What the sporting future will bring will only become apparent when a little normality has returned to the world.”

And he might be a great bargain signing for West Ham.

Stats

Gotze has racked up 45 goals and 61 assists in 217 games for Dortmund (Transfermarkt).

In 13 Bundesliga outings this season, the 27-year-old has averaged 19.5 passes per game with an impressive completion rate of 85% (Who Scored).

He is clearly not the player he once was. But who’s to say that he couldn’t recapture his best form if he moved away from Germany for a fresh challenge?

There must be something about Gotze.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp called the 27-year-old the best young player he has ever coached (Bundesliga.com).

Whether the talented attacker ever rediscovers his best form remains to be seen.

But he might just be worth the risk for West Ham. Especially considering the fact that he will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
