West Ham United star Tomas Soucek has impressed fans after being pictured training on his own during the coronavirus break.
West Ham were in the thick of an intense relegation battle before the COVID-19 pandemic shut football down last week.
A return date of April 4th was set originally but it is now widely accepted that will be extended further in light of the government’s latest advice.
Debate has raged about how the season should be concluded as a result.
West Ham at centre of football season debate
West Ham have found themselves at the centre of that particular argument after vice-chairman Karren Brady told The Sun the season should be “null and void”.
If the relegation dogfight does resume for the Hammers, one man who will be ready is midfield star Soucek.
The all-action Czech Republic star has been a huge hit since signing on loan in January with the option to buy.
Soucek pictured out running during enforced break
And he endeared himself to fans further still with his attitude towards his time away from the club during the coronavirus break.
West Ham posted the pictures of Soucek out running on the club’s Twitter account.
Some would say what is all the fuss about because Soucek never stops running!
Fans were suitably impressed. Some responded to the pictures by urging the club to make sure they take up the option to sign him permanently.
It sums up the player’s work ethic and spirit that has seen fans take him to their hearts after only a few appearances.
Midfielder is key to West Ham’s future
If and when the season does get back underway – or the next one begins – Soucek will be a huge part of West Ham’s plans moving forward.
The 25-year-old is exactly what the club has been missing since Cheikhou Kouyate faded and then left.
He brings the same honest workrate and desire that made Kouyate a fans’s favourite.
And like the Senegalese, Soucek has a goal or two in him as well.
