According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa want to re-sign Robert Snodgrass on loan, but West Ham United should definitely think twice about sanctioning his departure before the transfer window slams shut next Tuesday.

The Hammers have strengthened significantly in the wide areas, with Manuel Pellegrini securing deals for Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson.

The pair will likely be the Chilean’s starters for the opening Premier League game with Liverpool next Sunday and one would imagine they will be given an extended run considering how much they cost.

Another winger who still has a lot to offer is Snodgrass, who was of course farmed out on loan to Villa last term.

The Scotland international was excellent for the Midlands club during his temporary stint, and he should be given the chance to prove himself by Pellegrini.

The club do not have an abundance of wide men. There are the two new boys, and Michail Antonio and Arthur Masuaku can both operate as wingers. These guys are all pacy and direct, but Snodgrass has something else to offer.

With Manuel Lanzini out for the foreseeable future, Snodgrass – who has been playing well in pre-season – is surely the man to step into his shoes as and when required.

There is nobody in the Irons’ squad that can deliver the ball with the same quality and consistency as Snodgrass, who deserves a chance to showcase his ability properly after a tricky start following his 2017 move from Hull.
