West Ham earned a vitally important three points against Southampton at the London Stadium today.
David Moyes finally played an XI that got the Hammers fans excited before the game.
The match was perhaps too open for the Scot’s liking, but West Ham got the job done in the end.
Here’s how we think the players fared, marking each one out of 10…
Lukasz Fabianski – 6
Didn’t have too much to do in fairness, but when called upon he didn’t make any mistakes. Didn’t really have a chance of saving Southampton’s first-half goal.
Jeremy Ngakia – 7
The youngster was solid again when called upon. He showed his inexperience at times, but that will improve with time.
Issa Diop – 7
A decent display from the Frenchman aside from a poor back-pass to Fabianski that really put the Pole under pressure. Made some good defensive challenges, but should have scored in the first-half.
Angelo Ogbonna – 7
The Italian was his usual solid self today, and was a really calm and reassuring presence at the back for his team.
Aaron Cresswell – 6
Didn’t offer enough going forward. he looked shaky defensively too. The 30-year-old’s lack of pace is somewhat of a worry, and the signing of a new left-back in the summer must be a priority for West Ham.
Mark Noble – 5
The Hammers skipper really does seem to be well past his best. He was caught out in possession numerous times, and his passing was way off the mark as well.
Declan Rice – 7
Another solid display from the 21-year-old. He didn’t make a huge difference in the final third, but he didn’t do much wrong either. Always provides a certain level of solidarity to West Ham’s defensive setup.
Pablo Fornals – 8
The mercurial Spaniard provided an excellent assist for Bowen in the first-half and one for Michail Antonio in the second. His work-rate is unrivalled by any other Hammers player as well.
Jarrod Bowen – 8
The 23-year-old got off the mark for West Ham with a superbly taken strike inside the first 15 minutes. His runs in behind the opposition’s defence will undoubtedly provide West Ham with something different between now and the end of the season. Bowen also showed really impressive defensive responsibility – something that the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini quite simply would not have offered the team.
Michail Antonio – 9
A constant menace for the Hammers. His pace, drive and determination offers the Hammers something that they do not otherwise possess. The 29-year-old’s goal in the second half was an absolutely vital one too.
Sebastien Haller – 7
The Frenchman broke his eight-game scoring drought with a vital goal just before half-time. His all around display wasn’t actually that great. But he deserves credit for making something happen out of nothing for West Ham’s second goal.
And his Rabona pass to Antonio midway through the second-half was quite simply sensational.
Robert Snodgrass (on for Boween, 77) – NA
Worked hard but didn’t really have enough time to affect the outcome of the game.
Felipe Anderson (on for Fornals, 90) – NA
