West Ham United have made the first move for Leeds star Tyler Adams but it’s bad news for a very simple reason.
West Ham have been linked with a plethora of midfielders ahead of Declan Rice’s imminent departure including Leeds United’s Tyler Adams.
According to The Daily Mail, the Leeds and USA player is firmly on the radar of West Ham in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers have also been linked with the likes of Denis Zakaria, James Ward-Prowse, Joao Palhinha, Edson Alvarez and Adams’ US teammate Yunus Musah.
The 36-capped international is 24 and only joined Leeds last summer from RB Leipzig for around £20 million.
But he could do little to stop Leeds dropping into the Championship, missing the crucial run-in through injury.

West Ham make first move for Leeds star Tyler Adams but it’s bad news for a very simple reason
West Ham have appointed German Tim Steidten as technical director in charge of scouting and recruitment.
Adams will be well known to Steidten from his three years in the Bundesliga. So there appears to be substance to reports linking West Ham with the Leeds United ace.
Now West Ham have made the first move for Leeds star Adams but it’s bad news for a very simple reason.
Leeds Live has reiterated claims that West Ham are pursuing Adams and that the Elland Road outfit will likely have to sell if his £40m valuation is met.
But this is a massively risky move on West Ham’s part if the reports are accurate.
Quite how Leeds can see fit to double a player’s valuation after he has been a central figure in a side that’s been relegated is anyone’s guess.

Average Adams is not the man to replace brilliant Rice
And the simple fact of the matter is, Adams is nowhere near good enough for West Ham. Especially as a replacement for Rice.
It’s going to be hard enough for the Hammers to move on from Rice as it is. Can you imagine the massive drop off in quality should David Moyes and Steidten replace him with Adams.
Adams had an average match rating that was quite simply distinctly average last season of 6.73. He registered zero goals and assists, got zero man of the match awards and his defensive statistics are nothing to write home about either.
West Ham must get the Rice replacement signings spot on. And signing what is – by Rice’s high standards – a very average player like Adams is not going to have Hammers fans excited about a new era.
The club must be able to find and attract better than the New York born midfielder.
Rice leaves big shoes to fill and Adams is not the man for the job.
