Kevin Strootman is a long-term target for West Ham.

Now, the latest developments might interest Manuel Pellegrini. According to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday (via TEAMtalk’s ‘Paper Talk’ page), Strootman is keen to move to the Premier League this winter.

The 42-cap Netherlands international is not getting the game time he wants at Marseille. After a difficult spell in France, Strootman is hoping to get his chance in the Premier League.

During the summer transfer window, West Ham were linked with a move for Strootman by various media outlets, including Sky Sports. Is now the time to rekindle that interest?

West Ham are lacking tenacity, power and legs in midfield. Strootman’s height, physicality and experience make him an interesting candidate. After hearing that he is available, West Ham should consider the Dutchman.

Strootman has the ability to sit deep in the midfield and operate alongside Declan Rice. Alternatively, he can compete with Mark Noble in a conventional central midfield role.

The 29-year-old has proven experience in Holland, Italy and France so he could be a success in England, too. If he becomes available for the right price, this should be a move for West Ham to explore.
