West Ham insider seems to rule out Niko Kovac taking over from Pellegrini

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is currently walking on very thin ice.

The Hammers sit in 16th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone.

The east London outfit are in real dire straits, and Pellegrini seems to be at a loss how to make things right.

According to the Telegraph, however, the West Ham board are reluctant to sack the Chilean, unless they fall inside the relegation zone.

That could actually happen this weekend, however, if the Hammers lose to Southampton and Aston Villa beat Sheffield United.

If Pellegrini is sent packing, it is unclear who would take over.

Uninspiring names such as David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Chris Hughton have all been mentioned.

Perhaps one of the more glamorous names to be touted for West Ham, however, is former Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt boss Niko Kovac.

ExWHUemployee seemed to pour cold water on those suggestions, however.

The Hammers insider claimed on Twitter that Arsenal is the more likely destination for the 48-year-old:

The problem for West Ham is that what exciting young manager would actually want to take over the club with the current owners?

Add to that the fact that the Hammers are currently in relegation trouble. And it is far from an attractive prospect for potential new managers.

If Pellegrini is sacked before the new year, it is highly likely that the Hammers will appoint an experienced head to steer the ship until the summer.

And whoever that it will likely not be well received by the West Ham fans.
