West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has recently undergone a hernia operation, and is expected to be out for the rest of the season, according to a report from the Sun.
And some Hammers fans want him moved on in the summer.
The 28-year-old joined West Ham in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer after his contract had expired with Arsenal.
He has flopped badly at the London Stadium, however. Wilshere has made just 16 appearances for the Hammers, racking up just one goal and one assist in those outings (Transfermarkt).
When the 34-capped England midfielder was signed 18 months ago, many West Ham fans questioned the wisdom behind giving him a £100k-a-week three-year deal (Spotrac).
And they have been proved right.
It is such a shame that Wilshere’s body has not allowed him to progress in the way that he should have. On his day, the former Arsenal man was an incredible talent. But it seems as though he will be one of those unlucky players who have never realised their full potential.
If West Ham can move him on in the summer and get him off their wage bill, it will be a wise move from the club.
It will free up space to bring in a younger, more athletic midfielder.
And some Hammers fans took to Twitter to suggest that Wilshere’s time at the London Stadium should be over in the summer after his recent hernia operation…
