West Ham were really put through their paces against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight.
It was a night where the Hammers looked fairly solid as a team defensively, but no particular player stood out.
And their decent shape and organisation was ruined by one moment of madness between David Martin and Roberto.
Some West Ham fans were unhappy with Mark Noble’s performance, however.
The 32-year-old Hammers skipper has been instrumental for the club over the past decade or so, but it is clear to see that his powers are waning.
He desperately lacks any kind of power, athleticism or pace. And with the way that the game has evolved over the last few years, Noble is in danger of being left behind.
The midfielder, who earns £50,000 per week according to Spotrac, certainly shouldn’t be playing week-in, week-out.
Hopefully David Moyes will bring in some midfield reinforcements this month, because Noble really does need to be taken out of the team. Temporarily at least.
The 32-year-old’s commitment to the cause cannot be questioned. But his quality certainly can.
