West Ham put in yet another poor display today, this time at home to West Brom in the FA Cup.

There were plenty of underwhelming performances all over the pitch, but one man stood out – Fabian Balbuena.

The 28-year-old’s distribution was absolutely horrendous against the Baggies, and he looked like a fish out of water.

Balbuena joined the Hammers from Corinthians in the summer of 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £6.5 million according to Sky Sports.

He enjoyed a decent debut campaign in England, but his performance levels have dropped off badly this season.

The Paraguayan is slow and laboured in his running. He lacks mobility, and as mentioned earlier, his passing leaves a lot to be desired.

Balbuena’s pass success rate of 72.6% in 13 Premier League games (Who Scored) this season really is very poor for a centre-back. Considering that most central defenders just make short passes to the more creative players in the team, that figure really should be around 80% at the very least.

The South American needs to start improving. And if he doesn’t, he needs to be moved on. It’s as simple as that.

Some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to Balbuena’s underwhelming display against West Brom today…
