West Ham United fans have hit back at football great Rivaldo over comments he made about fellow Brazilian Felipe Anderson.

West Ham broke their transfer record by some distance to land Anderson for a reported £42 million in the summer.

The former Lazio star was one of nine new signings as Manuel Pellegrini looked to rebuild a team that has flirted with relegation for the last two seasons.

Supporters were excited to see the tricky forward in the claret and blue.

Many hope Anderson can fill the boots of other great Hammers players before him such as Dimitri Payet and Paolo Di Canio.

But so far it just has not happened for the ex-Santos man in East London.

West Ham have lost all four Premier League games so far and face a daunting run of fixtures.

‘West Ham is not a top team’

Anderson looked good in away games at Liverpool and Arsenal.

But he struggled badly in home defeats to Bournemouth and Wolves.

Most supporters appreciate it often takes time for players to adapt when they first arrive in England.

Some fans are already concerned Anderson could prove to be a costly flop.

What they didn’t bank on was Brazilian great Rivaldo claiming ‘little’ West Ham were the problem (Daily Star).

“West Ham is not a top team in England but is a reasonable club where he can improve, and show his quality as a player in order to make another jump in the future, perhaps to a bigger English club,” Rivaldo said (Daily Star).

Small club? Pfft

While West Ham fans would not claim to be one of the elite, they are certainly not a small club.

West Ham are the 17th richest club in the world.

The Hammers have the sixth highest attendances in Europe.

And with 52,000 season ticket holders for three consecutive seasons at their 57,000 capacity London Stadium, West Ham are second to only Manchester United.

Then there is the club’s rich history.

Not to mention all the great players that have graced the claret and blue over the years.

‘Wow nice of him to speak so highly of us’

Hammers fans did not take kindly to the comments and have been reacting on Twitter.
