Mauro Zarate experienced a turbulent 18 month spell with West Ham, before leaving for Fiorentina in January 2016 for £1.6 million (beIN SPORTS).

The Hammers snapped the Argentine up on a free transfer in the summer of 2014. He failed to hit the heights that were expected of him in east london, however.

The 33-year-old, who now plies his trade in Argentina with Boca Juniors, racked up seven goals and three assists in 29 appearances for West Ham (Transfermarkt).

Zarate produced the odd piece of magic, but he just wasn’t consistent enough.

The former West Ham man has enjoyed a more successful spell with Boca Juniors, racking up 15 goals and 11 assists in 57 games (Transfermarkt). He also won the league title this season.

Zarate turned 33 today. West Ham posted an official tweet to their Twitter account wishing him a happy birthday.

And some Hammers fans responded in their numbers…
