West Ham play host to Liverpool in the Premier League tonight.
The Hammers are in real trouble, and are currently sitting just outside the relegation zone, purely because of a superior goal difference to those below them.
The Reds, meanwhile, are flying high at the top of the table, 16 points clear of second placed Manchester City.
If Liverpool are on form, they should have no problem swatting West Ham aside.
But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp warned his team that the Hammers are a still a dangerous side in spite of their league position, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:
“West Ham fight for the league and that is what it looks like. A big fight. Four or five at the back, different possibilities but we have to be ready. They have no time to waste. It will be just a tough one. Antonio and Lanzini could play and it will be tough but that is what the Premier League is all about.”
Whilst the German mentioning Antonio is understandable, naming Lanzini as a potential threat was a strange one.
The Argentine has been in absolutely shocking form this season.
The 26-year-old has racked up no goals and just two assists in 17 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, whilst creating just two ‘big chances’ (premierleague.com).
Lanzini also has a rather underwhelming shooting accuracy of just 33% this season (premierleague.com).
He is a far cry from the player who endeared himself to the Hammers fans when he first joined in 2015.
In fact, he has looked like a mere shadow of his former self this season.
