Javier Hernandez left West Ham for Sevilla yesterday, in a deal believed to be worth £7.2 million, according to the Sun.
The 31-year-old didn’t live up to expectations with the Hammers, after moving to east London from Bayer Leverkusen for around £16 million (The Telegraph) in the summer of 2017.
He scored just 17 goals in 63 appearances for West Ham.
Hernandez’s contract was due to expire in the summer of 2020. So getting just over £7 million for his services must be regarded as good business for the east London outfit.
The former Manchester United hitman was on around £145,000 per week at the London Stadium, and will be paid just £75,000 per week at Sevilla, according to Claret and Hugh.
That represents nearly at 50 per cent pay-cut, and goes to show just how desperate Hernandez was to leave the Hammers.
West Ham fans won’t be too sad to see the Mexico international leave, however.
The Hammers fans have a new hero in the form of Sebastien Haller, and the Frenchman seems to be the complete package.
Hernandez’s apparent desperation to leave east London would still have come as somewhat of a surprise to many, however.
And some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the South American taking a huge pay-cut to leave the club…
