ExWHUemployee claimed on Twitter last night that it is likely that Winston Reid will agree a move to the MLS, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
The 31-year-old joined the east London outfit from Danish side FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2010.
And he has gone on to make 223 appearances in all competitions for West Ham.
Reid, who earns £70,000 per week according to Spotrac, hasn’t played a senior game for the Hammers since March 2018, however.
The 25-capped New Zealand international was a fine player for West Ham in his day, always incredibly consistent and a real leader at the back.
Having spent so long on the sidelines, however, it is hard to imagine Reid returning to his best.
The 31-year-old’s numbers in 166 Premier League games for West Ham really are quite impressive.
According to premierleague.com, in those outings, Reid has racked up 660 ball recoveries, 1301 clearances, 348 interceptions, 377 aerial battles won, 801 duals won, and has a tackle success rate of 79%.
He is exactly the kind of defender the Hammers need at the moment. But as mentioned earlier, his two-year layoff has surely affected him both physically and mentally.
And some West Ham fans reacted to the claims that he could be moved on to the MLS…
