Carlton Cole suggested that West Ham winger Felipe Anderson is not pulling his weight at the moment, when speaking to Sky Sports’ The Debate programme on Tuesday night (February 25th, 22:45), and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to his comments.

The 26-year-old returned from six weeks on the sidelines against Liverpool on Monday night, but he failed to deliver.

The Brazilian seems to lack the confidence to actually run at opposing defenders this season. And his ball retention has been extremely poor.

Anderson has racked up just one goal and five assists in 22 appearances for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt).

After arriving for a blockbuster £41.5 million fee from Lazio in the summer of 2018 (BBC), Hammers fans are right to expect more form the South American.

Cole, who made 393 appearances for West Ham, demanded a lot more from Anderson, when speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate on Tuesday night:

“Felipe Anderson for me is a great player but he’s just not pulling his weight about, at the moment. I don’t like to batter my colleagues as footballers, but he should be doing a lot more.”

Cole is spot on here. Anderson has so much talent. But the 26-year-old just hasn’t shown what he is truly capable of on a consistent enough basis.

The Hammers have some huge games between now and the end of the season.

And it’s time for Anderson to step up and give the West Ham fans what they deserve to see.
