West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to praise Conor Coventry for his performance against Northampton Town during tonight’s pre-season friendly.

The 21-year-old may well have a key role to play for the Hammers during this upcoming season.

Especially if he manages to impress David Moyes in the build-up to the Premier League campaign during pre-season.

Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble are currently the only orthodox central midfield options at the London Stadium.

Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals can fill in if required to do so but they are naturally more attack-minded players.

Coventry proved tonight that he certainly has what it takes to push the likes of Rice, Soucek and Noble next season.

The young midfielder oozed class at the Sixfields Stadium.

The 21-year-old really did look the part and he has undoubtedly given David Moyes food for thought tonight. He scored a cracking goal as well.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international surely deserves a chance in the cup games at the very least next season.

Whether Moyes believes that he is ready for Premier League action yet remains to be seen, however.
