Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has been called world-class on numerous occasions by a whole variety of different pundits. But some West Ham fans took to Twitter, suggesting that they do not understand why.

The 28-year-old Brazilian, who earns £180,000 per week at Anfield (Spotrac), joined the Reds from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 for around £ 29 million (BBC).

Firmino has been a real hit on Merseyside, racking up 77 goals and 59 assists in 235 games for Liverpool so far (Transfermarkt).

World class say the pundits

The Reds hitman has been labelled as world-class by a variety of pundits. Gary Neville said any team in the world would take Firmino (Sky Sports), whilst Ian Wright and Paul Merson both suggested that the South American is the best player in his position in world football (Sky Sports).

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas, meanwhile, absolutely raved about Firmino, saying that he ‘loves him to death’.

But some West Ham fans don’t seem convinced by the Liverpool hitman…

Now, these are extremely harsh verdicts. On his day, Firmino must be classed as one of the very best centre-forwards in world football.

The former Hoffenheim man is clearly a top class player

He is far from orthodox. The 28-year-old likes to drop deep into more of a number 10 position and help link up play between midfield and attack.

The Brazilian has an absolutely magnificent first touch. And he has the occasional penchant for absolutely absurd pieces of skill.

Firmino does so much for Liverpool and he is vitally important for Jurgen Klopp’s team. He is one of those players who you really understand how much you miss him when he is not playing.

And perhaps the West Ham fans have been a little bit harsh on the Reds hitman here. They might not like to admit it. But they have been.

Perhaps the Hammers fans were just trying to get a rise out of the Liverpool fans. Who knows? These are testing times for everyone and football fans are not exempt.
