West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing a hernia operation, according to the Sun.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 after his contract expired with Arsenal.

Wilshere’s time at the London Stadium has been blighted by injuries, however.

The 34-capped England international has made just 16 appearances for West Ham. And has racked up just one goal and one assist in the process (Transfermarkt).

His talent is obvious and beyond question. But it seems as though he will never hit the heights that he is capable of. His body will just not allow him to do so.

Wilshere, who earns £100,000 per week with the Hammers according to Spotrac, is still under contract in east London until the summer of 2021. It is incredibly hard to envisage him having much of a future with West Ham, however.

In six Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season, the former Arsenal man has made just 10.7 passes per match on average. He has created zero big chances, attempted no through balls and has won only 50% of his duals (premierleague.com).

And after his hernia operation, it seems as though Wilshere will not have a chance to improve upon those statistics this season.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to post a defiant message, however, as he embarks on his recovery…

Hopefully for Wilshere’s sake, he will one day return to his best. He has had terrible luck over the past decade or so with injuries.

And if he can enjoy an injury free campaign next season, he might still prove to be an important player for West Ham.
