West Ham boss Pellegrini’s comments on Sanchez and Haller could have been final nail in his coffin

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini was sacked late last night.

And many Hammers fans were pleased to see the Chilean sent packing.

West Ham have won just two of their last 13 Premier League games – a run that has seen the fall down to 17th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone.

The Hammers’ football has been slow and laboured, and they have absolutely no identity whatsoever. It has been really hard to watch.

And Pellegrini finally paid the price last night.

West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Leicester City yesterday, and the 66-year-old’s post match comments surely didn’t help his cause whatsoever.

Pellegrini took Sebastien Haller off after 54 minutes when the score was 1-1. Hammers fans were crying out for Carlos Sanchez to be substituted instead, however.

And the Chilean explained to reporters his reasoning behind the decision, as quoted by Football.London:

“Sebastien was not in shape to continue. He was tired, we needed to have fresh players up front. I absolute understand about the fans. Carlos played this game because we need him. [Mark] Noble is 32 years old and cant play two games in 48 hours, Declan is a young player and needed someone with him. Maybe when some people wanted to see another striker instead of him but it is not about Carlos.”

So West Ham fans have finally got what they want.

But who next?

David Moyes is the name being heavily linked, and if the Scot is appointed on a permanent deal, there will surely be a revolt amongst the Hammers fans.

If West Ham want to make real progress and reach the next level, they should be looking at managers like Niko Kovac or Marco Rose.

As things stand, however, that is nothing more than a pipe dream. David Sullivan will always look to do things on the cheap.

And we should be expecting nothing glamorous. It’s written in the stars that someone like Moyes or Sam Allardyce will take over from Pellegrini.
