West Ham United boss David Moyes is in desperate need of a pick-me-up and he may just have got one.
The Scot’s return to West Ham was not universally popular.
But co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold looked to have been vindicated when Moyes oversaw the 4-0 New Year’s Day thrashing of Bournemouth.
West Ham have failed to win in their five Premier League games since, though.
And the Hammers have dropped deep into the relegation mire as a result.

Doom and gloom has engulfed West Ham
Fans have been protesting against the owners and the club is in crisis on and off the pitch.
On paper West Ham’s run-in is also unkind.
Doom and gloom has engulfed the London Stadium with many pundits, fans and statistical analyses predicting the Hammers are destined for the Championship.

The daunting prospect of facing back-to-back away games against Manchester City and Liverpool had an air of inevitability about it.
So it came as something of a relief to many when the City game was postponed due to Storm Ciara on Sunday.
Moyes boosted by City legend’s verdict on postponement
And City legend Shaun Wright-Phillips feels that was bad news for his old club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Wright-Phillip’s comments will come as a boost for Moyes and West Ham.
“For me, it was always tough if (a match was postponed),” Wright-Phillips told Sky Sports.
“You build up so much emotion, ready to go out and get the victory and that happens., it’s a bit deflating, to be honest with you. I think for me as a player I would rather it [be rescheduled] this weekend.
“I think it’s more of ‘where do you put it in?’ For Man City, and the teams up the top or even the teams at the bottom, if you’re getting into your stride at that time, the winter break can almost break it and when you come back you could be doing the opposite things.
“It’s a tough one especially when you come back off holiday to keep that momentum going.
“I would have rather just played continuously, to be honest with you, but like you said the game’s a lot different now.”

Is West Ham’s luck changing?
Shaun Wright-Phillips’s encouraging assessment of the situation – from West Ham’s point of view at least – comes as West Ham’s luck appears to be changing.
A decent transfer window was followed by the much-needed appointment of former skipper Kevin Nolan and Paul Nevin as assistants to Moyes.
Storm Ciara has helped give West Ham time on the training pitch with Moyes and important players such as Felipe Anderson, Lukasz Fabianski, Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio an extended spell to return from injury or recover full fitness.
And for a change recent results have all gone West Ham’s way too.
Brighton drawing with Watford, Everton beating a Crystal Palace side freefalling their way into the relegation mix and Sheffield United winning against Bournemouth.
