West Ham ace Declan Rice outlined a big difference between David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme yesterday (Saturday March 7th, 13:37).
The Scot was brought in as the Chilean’s replacement at the end of December.
But in reality, the Hammers haven’t really made much progress over the past two months.
At least West Ham look a little bit more solid under Moyes. And they seem to be putting in a shift week-in, week-out.
In fairness to the 56-year-old, his task is to get results. The quality of football his team produces is actually secondary at the moment.
Rice spoke to Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday yesterday, and responded when asked what the biggest difference is between Moyes and Pellegrini:
“Moyes has come in at a time where we’re in a bit of a dog fight. And Pellegrini had us from the start of the season. So we were able to play a bit more attacking football under Pellegrini, popping it around the pitch. Whereas Moyes has come in at a tough time, and it’s not about playing nice football at the moment. I hate to say it, but it’s just about getting the points. Moyes has been really good. And when he’s got a full season under his belt, the fans will start to see the type of football we’re going to play.”
Rice makes a good point. Moyes has little option at the moment but to prioritise defensive stability and discipline.
When West Ham are on, they are still capable of playing some good stuff.
They just have to get the balance right.
It’s Wolves at home up next for the Hammers. And they will need to be on their best form in every aspect of the game, if they are to rack up what would be a vital three points against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
